Following on from our earlier news item about the “nuisance fly investigation” being undertaken by the Environmental Heath section of Lewes District Council, a further letter to residents has now been circulated along with a copy of the completed investigation report.
The letter (dated 24 August) is from Steven Teale of the Environmental Health team and is intended for distribution to all residents who are concerned about this problem. The report gives a comprehensive review of the investigations carried out and the conclusions reached. The letter also includes several helpful comments about steps that can be taken to provide some relief from the problem.
The conclusions of the report are that the high numbers of flies are a natural phenomenon that has occurred this year as a result of favourable environmental conditions. No evidence has been found to link any specific business premises, including the Macs' Farm, with the proliferation of flies.
As with the preliminary report, I think it is reassuring to receive such a comprehensive review of this problem and the investigation that has been carried out.
