Inter-Village Sports - Report & Results

26 May 2017

Ditchling, Streat and Westmeston Inter-Village Sports - 2017

This year the annual Ditchling, Streat and Westmeston Sports was held on the first May Bank Holiday and attended by a wide field of enthusiastic competitors. Held over two days, children, teenagers, adults and veterans competed in a variety of track events carrying on the tradition of inter-village competition that began in 1935.

On Sunday evening, over sixty people met at Ditchling Rec and walked or ran through beautiful countryside to Streat Church and back again, the youngest competitor was just four years old.

The following day, despite an ominous weather forecast, over 170 people competed in a variety of track events from egg and spoon to 1500m.

These events were possible due to the hard work of a large group of people, including the Sport’s Committee and volunteers who sold programmes, put posters up, marked out the course, marshalled, judged, gave out prizes and collated the results - a huge thank you to the spreadsheet wonders Simon and Louise Evatt. Thank you to St Margaret’s PTA for providing delicious refreshments and Ditchling Pre-School for fantastic face painting. Thank you also to Ditchling Parish Council for funding our new banner and Ditchling Village Association for their generous financial support of the entire event.

A special thank you to Dick Morley who as a child attended the very first Sports Event in 1935, and continues to help today marshalling at the Chase, marking out the track course on Monday morning and starting off every track event.

Well done to everyone who took part so enthusiastically, the results are as follows:
