A new season of the very popular History Talks begins at Stoneywish on Friday 28th April with a talk on The Edwardians by Richard Allen.
In his inimitable style, Richard Allen exposes the public and private face of Edwardian England and his thumbnail sketches reveal what was going on in Ditchling and what was afoot in the country at large in the early 1900s.
After a scandalous start as ‘Bertie’, Prince of Wales, Edward VII was to prove a diligent and popular monarch. His reign, however, was an age of contrasts which saw the rich enjoying undreamt-of luxuries, while the poorest still populated the workhouse. As hats got bigger, corsets longer, and songs more sentimental, the nations of the world, were heading inexorably towards war...

All talks take place on a Friday morning at the Stoneywish Visitor Centre, Spatham Lane, Ditchling, at 10.30 a.m. and include an accompanying exhibition, real coffee and a slice of legendary Stoneywish cake!
